Before your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Laser hair removal will work a lot better and be safer for patients who follow our simple advice.
You DON’T need to let your hair grow before treatment – if it is too long, it will need to be trimmed. So shaving up until a couple of days before treatment is fine.
However, you must NOT use any hair removal techniques that remove the follicle. For 6 weeks before laser hair removal, you should avoid:
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the follicle, so if this has been removed at the root, then treatment will not be effective.
Switch to shaving instead.
Sun and Tanning
Avoid tanning for six weeks before and after treatment. This includes:
- sun exposure
- sun beds
- fake tan
All of these will make the skin darker and reduce the contrast with the hair follicle, making treatment less effective.
In addition, sun exposure both before and after laser hair removal makes complications more likely.
