Turkish Referendum Laser Hair Removal Decree

Vote-Winning Move Ahead of Referendum

President Erdoğan Emergency Decree on Laser Hair Removal

laser hair removal world newsThe president’s pre-election work ahead of the Turkish referendum included a surprising emergency decree on laser hair removal.

Mr Erdogan invited representatives of Turkey’s beauty industry chamber of commerce to an auditorium at the palace on March 29th, where a live TV broadcast was made, entitled “For a beautiful Turkey, of course, yes”. The legislation was then signed to give beauty industry workers:

“the right to operate certain tools to perform laser hair removal”

Previously only medical staff were permitted to operate laser hair removal machinery by law. Some dermatologists have criticised the move, citing patient safety; but allowing beauticians to carry out laser hair removal is expected to expand availability of the treatment and boost jobs in the beauty sector.

Others have taken to social media to about the use of the country’s state of emergency to make vote-winning changes to legislation.

As for the Turkish Referendum, the result was 51.4% ‘yes’ to the constitutional changes which increase the President’s powers, turning Turkey from a parliamentary to a presidential republic.
