Vogue’s 5 Treatments for Winter

winter treatmentsWinter isn’t over yet – in fact there are 2 weeks until Spring starts.

So it’s not too late to share Vogue Beauty’s “5 Skin Treatments That Are Better to Do in Winter”, which lists laser hair removal at the very top of its list of recommendations.

  1. Laser Hair Removal
Laser technology works on the basis of skin/hair contrast. During the winter months, the skin is at its most even tone and least tanned so the contrast to hair colour is at its greatest. New York City dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D. says

“Laser hair removal is best to do in the winter because there is less sun exposure than other times of the year”
“The laser targets pigment, therefore having the least amount of melanin makes the treatment easier, safer, and most effective.”

  2. Chemical Peels + Micro-Needling
Skin peels remove the top layer of dead skin cells, exposing newer skin to the elements. They can make the skin more sensitive to the sun and aftercare includes good sun protection. Jennifer Myers, M.D., founder of SkinCeuticals Advanced Clinical Center said

“Since chemical peels make skin more sun sensitive by removing superficial layers, the winter is an ideal time to try one.”

  3. Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite treatment can lead to bruising or irritation, so is recommended during winter months when the skin is more likely to be covered with clothing.
  4. Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal makes the sun very sensitive to the sun and again, is best done in winter when the skin is less exposed.
  5. Laser and Light Treatments
Treatments utilising laser, IPL or fraxel are recommended for winter, as the skin is more sensitive to light after treatment. Carrying out treatment during the duller months when skin is less exposed reduces the risk of side-effects.
